I would typically agree with you about knowledge being the counter to fear, but I don't think that any amount of knowledge about death will cure a fear of it. Simply because I'm not afraid of what I don't know, I'm not afraid there won't be an afterlife, or that I'll end up in hell. I'm solely afraid because I don't want to die, no matter what happens to me afterwards, which I suspect will be nothing.

I want to live a fairly full life, I want to accomplish things. Although I can say that I think I would be brave enough to fight and die for freedom, I would prefer to not.

And like I said, I don't think any amount of knowledge, attainable or otherwise, would absolve that fear.

Same here. I don't handle myself well when I'm getting shot at so I don't think I'd be much good...I'd be a good general though, I'm very good at tactics but shocking at actual fighting.

Proof of my general abilities:

I don't fear death either but I don't want to go before I've had a good life. I suppose it's easy saying that now though, ask me when I'm 60 if I'm afraid of death and you might get a different answer.

You were playing cricket again weren't you Lashy? :P

SRO, there is a really good book that I'd recommend.  It's called "No Death, No Fear", written by a Vietnamese Buddhist Monk.  http://us.macmillan.com/nodeathnofear

Yes you're young, you have a lot to live for.  But, don't fear death.  Death comes to us all.  It is just a natural part of life.  Too many people fear death, in doing so, they never really learn to live.

Haha, I'm familiar with Buddhist teachings. :)

I don't plan on letting that fear prevent me from doing things, but I cannot but be aware of it being there. It's better to be honest with yourself then to think optimistically.

Yes...painful sport an all. lol. Something you'd like:

"The reason why the English created cricket is because we had no concept of boredom."

It's an old criticism/joke but it's still kinda funny. lol.  Anyone who thinks that is true on the other hand clearly hasn't had a little red ball coming at them so quick they can just about see it...not that I know what that's like, I'm the bastard who throws it at them. ;) ;D lol.

I'll check it out, I bet I probably will like it.

I happen to agree with Buddhist teachings (to a degree, I'm not a pacifist however), they are definitely worth aspiring too. I don't really call myself a Buddhist because I am a far ways away from the objective of being emotionally still, calm, on demand.

Alas, I'm somewhat of an angry person. :P
So I continue to meditate and whatever else I have to do to better myself, progress is slow, I'm sure it'll come more with age.

Anyway. I don't do too well when I meditate, I can't stop my mind from thinking. I really don't like the quite either, I don't do well under that.
