On Monday I decided to go take a little trip and go camping (my style). I left at 10AM on Monday morning with a knife, a box of matches, some raisins and a needle (no tent BTW) and I survived very happily until this afternoon when I thought it would be a good idea to come home. I stayed in a little woods about 6 or 7 miles away and caught a fair few squirrels, pigeons and a pheasant (which Kim is going to cook for me on Sunday once it’s been hung long enough) and I learned a few things.

The first thing was that the native Canadians were onto a winner. They suspended pots over the fire with two tree braches rather than the one that our Neolithic inhabitants used (easier to adjust).

The second thing is that stone tools are much better than steel ones. After the first day I didn’t use my pocket knife more than two or three times. I read a lot about Neolithic man so I kind of know how to make a stone tool, it wasn’t brilliant but it was still good.

The third thing is that family is shit and overrated. Somehow, in typical fashion, half my family forgot my birthday, it’s worse than it seems as well because my cousins’ birthday is 7 days before mine; but the really funny thing is my grandmother (evil witch) just phoned me to wish me happy birthday (a day late, still earlier than last year) and then proceeded to blame me for not visiting her! What the fuck has gone on there, have I missed something? I thought when it’s your birthday people are meant to visit you, have I been transported into middle earth and the Shire where on your birthday you give out presents?

Apart from getting my name wrong every time she talks to me (we have to go through the family tree to get to my name. Joe…James…John, every fucking name you can imagine that starts with J and then she finally get’s to my names), she thought today was my birthday (the 19th rather than the 18th). Have I missed something there as well because I swear on Nelsons grave that the date doesn’t change, it’s kind of stuck with you for the rest of your life?

I don’t give a shit about birthdays (anyone’s not just mine) but why the fuck phone someone up and then have a go at them because your to fucking lazy to get up off your arse and see them? Am I living in a different world all of a sudden? This is another addiction in their long list of fuck ups like this. When I was twelve they didn’t bother sending me a card at all (they sent the Christmas card though) because they worked on the theory that I’ll see them around New Year day, when we got there they gave me my card but only after they took the £5 note, that should have been my present, out of it because (and I quote this because it sticks in my mind) “You’re not getting two lots of money”.

That was my rant for the month. I half wish I stayed in my woods now. lol. I’d also like to say happy birthday to Kirk Hammett who has the same birthday as me (how cool is that? Lol ;D).

Saturos. No they remembered, Kim remembered and the lads at the club did as well. They all chipped in a few pound and added it to my bar tab, I now have £150 worth of beer to drink (should last me a few weeks :P). Friday the 13th eh? Interesting. Lol. :D

Aye, I went without a tent. I tried to build a shelter I saw in a painting a few months ago but it wasn’t as successful as I thought it would be (I think it was too windy to be honest). It was like the standard lean-to shelter but rather than lying a few branches across a log (so it was live half an upside-down V) it had another log at the back about three foot off the ground so (assuming I remember the painting alright) you can block the wind coming in from the sides. I think it was too wet windy for it to work as it should have; I changed it and put about six inches of bracken (that should be dead at this time of year but isn’t for some reason) over the back before putting a few more branches over it to keep all the bracken in place. Lol.

I didn’t try to find any greens because I’m not sure what I’m looking for, I found something that looks exactly like chives but they didn’t smell of it at all. :-\ :( The pheasant I caught was very nice as well.
