I don't do well when I meditate. My mind just can't switch off for any length of time; right now I'm running two conversations in my mind, one of them is this one you're reading at the other is the same conversation I've been having for the last few days. It is not unusual for me to run two different conversations in my head at the same time so I know I have a relatively high amount of control over my mind but I just can't switch it off.

When I try to meditate I normally start off calm...then I talk to myself (I don't know why, normally along the lines of "don't think of anything...you twat you ruined it") and then I go back to quietness...and then I think of something else again and get frustrated as fuck. Kim does this all this crap, Yoga and shit like that, and she says it's easy; I don't believe her, I don't think it's possible and, more over, I think you die if you don't think of anything.

I can't do it. I've tried everything. I've tried with Music, without music; I've tried in bath; I've tried in the dark, in the light; fuck I can't even think of nothing when I'm trying to go to sleep, I could be drunk and my mind would still think more than the average person would in a week.

I think and I think and I think....my mind cannot/will not turn off.


How do you meditate? How on earth do you turn your mind off? How do you stop thinking about thinking? My head hurts.

I get the best results without music under the stars. And rather then try to not think of anything, just try and get distracted on nothing in particular. The stars are good for this for me. Stillness does not necessarily equate to blankness.

I don't know, it's hard to explain, control your breathing. At first, the first 3 or 4 times I seriously tried meditating it didn't work because I had to think about controlling my breathing, but eventually you get it down and you don't think about it. Full, controlled breath in, and full controlled breath out. Sit in a position that is comfortable, or lay down even. Stretch yourself out before hand, for some reason stretching loosens me up, more than just physically.


And just as my breathing was a problem when I first started, my mind wondering was, and still is, a problem. But it gets easier every time. The key for that is to not get frustrated, because that's exactly what you're tyring to fix. Or for me that's what I'm trying to fix anyway, I guess everyones has their own objectives. But regardless, it defeats the purpose if you're frustrated. So don't get frustrated, just habitually release what you're thinking about, and again try to focus on nothing but the moment that is passing, and then that moment. No future, no past, no worries, no thoughts of arguments with loved ones, or of friends that have been lost.

Just... Appreciate, I guess. Every breath, just focus on being there for that moment.

Alright I'll try without music under the start, it's -5 out there tonight and with fog and thick as soup so I wont be trying it this week. lol.

HA! Yeah, winter doesn't make for good star gazing or outdoor meditation. :P

There is a lack of fog here except in the mornings near the water and up in the mountains, but cloud cover is almost constant.

Nice thread we have here. As to meditating, I try to meditate all through out the day in some fashion or another. Some days, its deeper than other. As long as I am clearing my thoughts and becoming more aware of my own consciousness. :)

I'd like to retract my earlier statement, don't even focus on the passing moment, simply sit back and be aware of it and it alone, think of nothing but realize the moment you're in. :)
