Scientists searching for alien life should get governments and the UN involved lest we unwittingly contact hostile extraterrestrials, a British astronomer has warned.

The caution comes as more experts argue that the search for intelligent life should be stepped up.

Mr Marek Kukula, public astronomer at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, said: "Part of me is with the enthusiasts and I would like us to try to make proactive contact with a wiser, more peaceful civilisation."

  Another very interesting post . To believe that aliens are all benevolent is a crazy to me as thinking that all humans are.

We can only hope the first contact is a peaceful one. And not war of the worlds type stuff.

Exactly Sheye. Imagine if we could go back in time to the stone age or something. We would show them our cell phones, laptops, vehicles, and pictures of the world several thousand years in the future. With all this technology that we would show primitive people, they would think that we also have solved our sociological issues amongst each other, in other words "Peace". You can be very technological and very smart without being benevolent beings.

If there is one race out there then there is more then just one. I don't think the "good guys" would allow the "bad guys" to make contact in an unfriendly fashion. I feel that we are part of a "star trek" kinda universe. A "Federation of Planets" kinda thing. That most of our visitors are the good guys on a peaseful mission of exploration. By so many different reports of many different kinds of visitors. I'm sure there is some "Feringei" out there causing mischief out there and the federation would not allow hostil contact. I have seen an example of this possible scenarieo in a NASA video. I know mike knows of this video. It show an object come in and stop, then another come by a bit later then it stops then make a bee line away in a different direction then the other one looks like it goes after it. Some had said it looked like WE shot at it but watch this one and think of my idea of things..
