Dogu aliens? Gods? Spirits?

This is a link a gallery of these bizarre statues made by the ancient Jomon civilization of the Japanese Islands.  I could see how these maybe are spirits or something that the Jomon worshiped.  Some really look like aliens or something though.  What does anybody else think?  It's hard to say really since we can't figure anything out about the Jomon.

I recall something about Canis Major and Aborigines but don't remember all of the details.  I am unsure if this is possibly related?  There seems to be some knowledge of the ancients that they knew certain things about the galaxy that have only been "discovered" in recent times.  Possibly the sky in antiquity looked different than today.  I am unsure.  What I do know is that light takes a long time to get here and we are really looking into the past every time we look up.  Extraterrestrial contact would be another answer to this due reports that they have shown star charts and such to abductees in contemporary  times.
