Juicing - a note for DT.
« on: May 29, 2010, 03:17:20 AM »

After several months of trying fruit juices I have come to the conclusion you were entirely correct when you advised I should make the juice 80% veggies.

Everyone will have a different result based on their condition, lifestyle and whatever.  But in my case I found I actually got FAT from the (near) 100% fruit juice.

I can't say the fruit was the only thing that caused me to put on weight, but I've no doubt it was a key component in it.

I had been eating normal food - as well as several glasses of fruit juice -  with a lot of quasi-junk-type food mixed into my diet, -  such as the odd bar of chocco, a packet of biscuits when I could grab them, and  ...  and ... at least three cans of sweetened can-coffee from the vending machine a day. ::)

It's a no-brainer really, isn't it!

So I shifted gear with my diet.   I've been on homemade soups for a week so far -  mostly veggies and beans.  Today I had my first 'real' veggie juice, though I mixed-in a small orange to make it less unpaletable.

I also milled some millet-seed and made my first millet bread.  ;D  ...  It wasn't too bad for a first go.

Well ...  I usually have a carrot or two in it.  ...  And basically I go to the 'seconds' corner and sift through and see what's being sold off cheap.

Yesterday's and today's juice was cucumber, capsicum and chinese-type lettuce.  Spinach is a good one, as are any of the other leafy gween things. -  If there's an apple going cheaply then I put one of those in. -  I eat the seeds as I'm cutting the apple for the juicer.

My soups are getting better, and I'm getting used to them.  Really easy!  I prepare for the next batch of soup by putting some beans into soak.  I let them soak overnight.  I use any beans I can find at the s/market, but I don't want to use soy.  Red beans, black beans and white beans, and if there were green one's I'd like to try those.

I start with some spring water in a pan - I get it near my place at the foot of a big tree-covered hill.  I put a big old brown jar in the basket of my small scooter and trundle down and fill it every other day.  Into the water I put the beans, then I put a couple of spuds, some pumpkin, carrots and an onion.  Then a heap of black pepper and a teaspoon of salt and a couple of bay leaves.  I put a dessert-spoonful of olive oil in as well.  When it's been bubbling for ten minutes or so I transfer the pan tomy rice cooker and leave it on 'warm' setting so it kinda keeps it hot and makes it more tender.

I bought some mushrooms today, and some chicken, so the next soup will be different (thank God).

You should grow your own mate, it would be both exercise and you'll know exactly what went into your food.

I've started doing that.  I haven't got a garden at the moment, but that's just a matter of me finding the right place. ...  I'm spoiled for choice.

But I've got a dozen or so planters about 60cm wide around and across my 'den.'  In the planters I've got:-  Basil (two kinds), oregano (two kinds), rosemary, mint and thyme.  And three tomato plants, two Mexican red pepers, and ... that's about it I think -  apart from several of the planters having flowers in them.

When I'm ready to eat, I just go outside with a pair of scissors and snip-off what I want to eat.

After getting used to eating my own herbs I did a sort-out of my spice and herb jars and ended up throwing almost all of the contents away because there's just no comparison.

Another thing I'm trying is having cinnamon and honey first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

And y'know what?  Well  I tipped the scales at 78.5 kg a little under two weeks ago and I weighed myself today and I'm 75!  WOW!  I've still got half the gut-fat to go, but as I said, it's already half-gone .
