Wow, that sounds really sweet.  Then again, the slight tartness of the berries may counter that.

I lost my sweet-tooth some time ago.  I don't even do candybars any more.  I wonder if it has anything to do with them changing from sugar to GM high fructose corn syrup?

Ugh, there is a commercial on the radio right now for H1N1 vaccines.  >:( >:( >:( >:(  They couldn't sell all they bought last year so now they're pushing the same batches on the public...AGAIN!  I hate these people!

//rant off

Back to talking about growing your own and eating weeds too.  Last winter here the dandelions stayed around.  I could have munched on them all winter since we had such a mild one.

Great news guys. I'm hoping to get that bit of land next week or the week after. If it's the plot I saw though it's going to take a lot of work (seriously, you have no idea)...if I looked at the right plot I'm going to take pictures of it and start a blog because one of the things I'm going to try and become is a Market Gardner. I'm starting small (yes, fuck getting an education at the moment, it was took much hard work and not something I really want to do lol) and I'm going to work my way up until I get a proper farm. ;D

Congrats Lashy!  ;D

You know, you could get started with square foot gardening while you're reshaping the rest of the property.  That way you could have a few veggies this year while you're working the rest of the land.

An update from me, my corns are happy campers.  I have flowers on my peas.  My tomato has recovered from the rains, but not my pepper. :(  A slug killed my first sunflower, but my second one is just starting.  Oh, and the garden just happens to be by a wild raspberry bush, so I get a few morsels while I'm gardening. :D  I had some unknown plants that are doing well, but couldn't figure out what they were.  They're potatoes.  I had thrown out a couple  of sprouting potatoes into the weeds to see what would happen.  One of the boxes was built on top of them.  They have since grown up through the newspaper I put down and doing quite well.  :D

I really need to start that compost thing again.  I think I've found the pitch fork, so I could probably just do the pile thing without building anything or buying anything.  I think if I had the pile closer to the garden it would be easier to take it out there and play with it more often.  I got lazy the last time I tried the compost thing.  I got others to divide up the compost and put it in a separate container in the kitchen, but when I wasn't there it didn't get taken out.  Then, after a while, I stopped taking it out too. :(

I'm already planning on gathering the fall leaves and throwing them in the boxes.  Eventually it will compost and be ready for next spring.

So, I'm loving this gardening thing. :D  Today there was a humming bird getting into the nasturtiums.  I may have scared him away while watering.  I saw butterflies all over the flowers, not sure if they were mating or fighting, but what is the difference?

The damned slugs are still a problem for me, I've tried copper, eggshells, coffee grounds, beer...FUCK YOU ENGLISH!  Yet, I still can't bring myself to actually salt them.  It seems such a cruel death.

The tomato plant is GREAT!  I'm so excited.  My purple beans will be ready soon.  The first corn is about to get corn...ugh...it's fun!

I've made a lot of mistakes this first year of gardening.  I already have plans for next year.  But...to be able to be out there and eat fresh peas makes it all worth it.  I only eat peas fresh from the garden.  Otherwise, peas are gross.

And my compost is doing well too, thank you. ;)

Two months later than I originally though, I should be getting the land next week. lol. Its starting to feel a bit like the Great War (it will be over by Christmas).

The garden is going quite nicely but, sadly, it looks like summer is coming to an end so the Tomatoes aren't going keep coming much longer. We've made three jars of pasarta already and we have another three or four on the way. If summer can last just a little bit longer (two weeks) then we'll have a load of tomatoes and we'll be able to make more pasarta and some Green Tomato Chutney.
