The Government's New Right to Track Your Every Move With GPS

Government agents  can sneak onto your property in the middle of the night, put a GPS device on the bottom of your car and keep track of everywhere you go. This doesn't violate your Fourth Amendment rights, because you do not have any reasonable expectation of privacy in your own driveway - and no reasonable expectation that the government isn't tracking your movements.

That is the bizarre - and scary - rule that now applies in California and eight other Western states. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, which covers this vast jurisdiction, recently decided the government can monitor you in this way virtually anytime it wants - with no need for a search warrant.

First off, the government doesn't have any rights, they have privileges which we the people allow them to have!

To sneak onto a person's private property without their permission is trespassing.  That is a crime.  However, in the US we cannot own property due to property taxes.  So technically, the property belongs to the city.  As far as the private property of the car, most people don't own them either, since they have to yearly ask permission from government to have it "legal" with tabs.  However, it is possible to get the original documentation for a car from the manufacturer if you don't finance the car or buy it second hand.  Every car made has the equivalent of a birth certificate.  You can get it directly from the manufacturer if you ask for it.  If that is done, you really do own the car.  Most people don't do that, so in this case, this guy technically doesn't own his car either.

All law comes from property.  When we can no longer own property, the law no longer applies to us.  The only "property" we can still own is our own body.  Had he been walking, they'd have never caught him.

I'm just surprised it happened in Oregon.  They're pretty lax on pot.
