We Need To Talk...

Tariffs are actually good for a Country.  They encourage people to buy locally and therefore give the locals jobs.  For example, take wine.  In the US we have a fairly new wine industry.  Putting tariffs on foreign wine encourages people to buy California wines, because they're cheaper.  But, if somebody can afford and wants Italian wine, they can buy it, but it's just a little more expensive.  Meanwhile, the California farmer, the California wine makers and so on, are making money and have jobs.

I am absolutely convinced that in the US we have all the resources we need to be able to employ everyone and manufacture everything we need.  There is no need to buy imports.  That may not be true for European Countries.

Lotteries are voluntary taxes.  It's gambling, but the house is the government.  In my state we have two forms of lotteries.  One isn't called such, but essentially that is what it is.  They're called pull tabs and are only found at bars.  They're pieces of paper with a tab on top that you pull off to reveal the pictures underneath.  If the pictures match any of the winning pictures displayed, you win money.  The pull tabs are usually between $.25 and $1.00.  These have worse odds of winning than slot machines in Vegas.

Our lottery is also comprised of two different styles.  The state keeps expanding it because it makes so much money for them.  One form is similar to the pull tabs, but is found in convenience stores and liquor stores.  It's a piece of paper that you scratch off rather than pull off, to show pictures below.  The other is one with numbers picked like in bingo.  Those are only done twice a week.

Sales taxes, well that is debatable.  I don't like it, but comparing it to property and income tax, I like it better.  Or, I should say, I hate it least.  Bill Gate's father was pushing for a state income tax this last election.  Thank God every time these assholes push for that tax, it gets voted down.  But, they'll keep trying.

My favorite tax is lotteries because it is the only style that is voluntary.  That's why I don't play the lottery. ;)
